The WorldSBK championship is preparing for a significant technical overhaul starting in the 2027 season. Brembo, the Italian braking specialist, will become the exclusive supplier of braking systems for the entire WorldSBK class. This move marks the end of open competition among brake manufacturers and introduces a new standard component for all teams.
The centerpiece of this change is Brembo's Hyction technology. This new braking material is a carboceramic compound, a departure from the traditional steel discs currently used in production-based racing. While carbon brakes have been common in MotoGP for years, they require very high operating temperatures to work effectively. Carboceramic materials aim to offer a middle ground, providing strong stopping power with better performance across a wider temperature range.
For the teams and riders, this means a level playing field in one of the most critical areas of motorcycle performance. No team will be able to gain an advantage through a bespoke braking setup from a different supplier. The decision also simplifies logistics and technical development for the series organizer, Dorna, as all teams will rely on the same hardware.
Brembo has been a dominant force in motorcycle racing for decades, and this exclusive deal solidifies its position. The Hyction technology has been tested in other racing disciplines, but its introduction to WorldSBK represents a major step. Riders will need to adapt their braking style to the new material, which could shake up the competitive order in the early part of the 2027 season. The move is seen as a way to control costs while also bringing a proven, high-performance technology to the championship.
