Mableton Mayor Michael Owens teamed up with the Mayor's Educational Impact Fund to host a Technology Immersion Day for local high school students on May 11. The event aimed to give young people a direct look at careers in science and technology, moving beyond classroom theory into real-world application.
Students spent the day working with professionals from various tech fields. They tried their hand at coding, explored how data analytics works in business, and got a close-up view of hardware engineering. Organizers designed the sessions to be interactive, letting students ask questions and actually use the tools that tech workers rely on every day.
Mayor Owens emphasized that the goal was to show students that a career in technology is within reach. He noted that many young people in the area do not always see a clear path from high school to a tech job. The Immersion Day was meant to change that by providing direct exposure and mentorship.
The event also highlighted the importance of local partnerships. The Mayor's Educational Impact Fund works to connect city resources with schools, creating opportunities that might not otherwise exist. For the students who attended, the day offered a chance to imagine a future in an industry that continues to grow.
